Boat Thorn Acacia - Acacia cochliacantha

The Boat Thorn Acacia (Acacia cochliacantha) is a medium sized broadleaf evergreen tree for arid gardens and landscapes. This is a scrub, thicket forming variety known more for the thorns than the flowers. The thorns are boat shaped and emerge a brilliant red. Once dried, the thorns become a grayish brittle boat shape that is brutal to touch. Wattles (Acacia) can naturalize and be invasive in warmer climates. The native species is most common and rarely produced.
