Hedge Maple - Acer campestre

The Hedge Maple (Acer campestre) is a small deciduous tree commonly used as a hedge or screen. It is often "topped" and sheared, particularly in Europe, and also used in bonsai. This plant is extremely adaptable to multiple soil types and tolerant of drought and air pollution. This is one of the last trees to color, so early freezes may cause the leaf to brown and stay on through early winter. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
