The Mountain Maple (Acer spicatum) is a small flowering shade tree native to understories and midranges in Eastern forests that is adaptable to landscapes and gardens. The name spicata comes from the upright flower that is atypical of the Acer species. This plant can be invasive in moderate moist climates. The native species is most common in production.
