California Buckeye - Aesculus californica
The California Buckeye (Aesculus californica) is a large deciduous shrub or small tree for landscapes and gardens that is ideal for screening. It can also be used as a small specimen tree for winter interest. This plant is very drought tolerant and maintains a glossy appearance and deep green color even in prolonged heat. The leaf can develop rust and defoliate in periods of prolonged moisture. The native species is most common in production.
