Red Flowering Horsechestnut - Aesculus hippocastanum 'Rubra'
The Red Flowering Horsechestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum 'Rubra') is a flowering deciduous shade tree for landscapes, gardens and borders. It is also hardy enough for urban use. This tree is most desired for its showy red flower, durability, and the smaller size than the parent species. The leaves often develop rust and defoliate before reaching fall color. This is a cultivated variety of Aesculus hipposcastanum. Photos from the parent species will aid in identification.
