Black Spine Agave - Agave macroacantha

The Black Spine Agave (Agave macroacantha) is a small succulent shrub ideal for tropical and arid landscapes and gardens. This is a great clean looking holly that can clump, but is not an aggressive spreader. This plant is most sought for in the native habitat to make Mezcal Tequilla. The spikes on the edge of the leaves are extremely sharp and can cut skin. Do not prune or hike in without protection. The native species is most common in production.
