Oldham Bamboo - Bambus oldhamii

The Oldham Bamboo (Bambus oldhamii) is a large thicket forming shrub or small tree that is actually more of a grass with a woody stalk. This plant is extremely fast growing and evergreen so it makes a great screen. However, it should only be used where it cannot escape. The stalks are very useful for garden construction projects. This plant dies after blooming. It may take several years but it spreads by root so the stand will remain. By nature this plant is extremely invasive and should only be used where it can be contained. The native species is most common in production.
