Chihuahuan Orchid Tree - Bauhinia macranthera
The Chihuahuan Orchid Tree (Bauhinia macranthera) is a small deciduous flowering tree for landscapes and gardens. This species has a darker pink flower and is more cold tolerant others of the genus. Photos from other Bauhinia will aid in identification. In the frost free winters of zones 10 and 11 the leaves can stay on until new ones emerge. The pods produced in fruiting can be exremely messy. The native species is most common in production.
