Japanese Barberry - Berberis thunbergii

The Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii) is a medium sized deciduous shrub for borders, landscapes and gardens that is ideal for hedging. This is the most hardy and widely used variety of Berberis. This species is considered to be an exotic invasive species in many states and should not be used in wooded areas. It is also very thorny and difficult to keep clean of leaves and debris. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
