Sunsation Japanese Barberry - Berberis thunbergii 'Sunsation'
The Sunsation Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii 'Sunsation') is a medium sized deciduous shrub for borders, landscapes and gardens that is ideal for hedging. This is the most hardy and widely used species of Berberis. This variety is noted for the yellow leaf with red edge. This species is considered to be an exotic invasive species in many states and should not be used in wooded areas. It is also very thorny and difficult to keep clean of leaves and debris. This variety is a cultivar of Berberis thunbergii. Some of the photos are of the parent species for identification purposes.
