The Asian Black Birch (Betula davurica) is a medium sized deciduous tree for landscape and gardens. This variety is very drought tolerant. The exfoliating bark provides year round interest and small leaves provide a dappled shade. This variety is susceptible to the bronze birch borer. This plant is difficult to underplant due to a shallow root system. Expect heavy leaf drop when transplanting. The native species is most common in production.
