Monarch Birch - Betula maximowicziana

The Monarch Birch (Betula maximowicziana) is a medium sized deciduous tree for landscape and gardens. This variety is very drought tolerant. The exfoliating bark provides year round interest and small leaves provide a dappled shade. This variety is somewhat susceptible to bronze birch borer, but not as bad as others. Avoid mulching next to the bark to prevent them. The native species is most common in production.
