The Paperbark Birch (Betula papyrifera) is a medium sized deciduous tree for landscapes, gardens and naturalizing. This variety is considered to have the whitest bark of the native Birches. It is also has a nice dappled shade from the small leaves. The variety is very susceptible to the bronze birch borer. This plant is difficult to underplant due to a shallow root system. Expect heavy leaf drop when transplanting. The native species is most common in production.
