The Purple European Birch (Betula pendula 'Purpurea') is a small tree for landscapes and gardens that is ideal for specimen use. This variety has a smaller size with a deep purple leaf in the spring turning to a burgundy green in the late summer. It also has a the white exfoliating bark for year round interest. The variety is very susceptible to the bronze birch borer. Expect heavy leaf drop when transplanting. This is a cultivated variety of Betula pendula.
