The Queensland Bottle Tree (Brachychiton rupestris) is a medium sized broadleaf evergreen tree for landscapes and gardens. This plant is named for the bottle shaped trunk it develops over time. In some areas, native tribes would hollow out the inside to act as a cistern. The seed pods have a fiberglass thread like interior that can irritate hands. Be sure and handle with gloves. I have seen many sites list this botanical name as a narrow leafed version. I am sticking with the Australians and Academics for now.
