Common Boxwood - Buxus sempervirens

The Common Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) is a broadleaf evergreen shrub usually used for hedging but also used as a large specimen. This plant is easily sheared to a four foot hedge, but can be allowed to form specimens of up to 20 feet in height. This species should always be pruned to maintain a wider bottom than top to develop interior branching and avoid a 'splitting' apart of plant. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
