The Yellow Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia gilliesii) is a deciduous or broadleaf evergreen shrub for landscapes and gardens. This plant has prolific flowers in spring and summer and can be trained as a tree, but is more often an irregular shaped shrub. This plant will typically defoliate in zones 8 and 9 over winter but may retain the leaves in zones 10 and 11. The native species is most common in production.
