The Desert Bird of Paradise (Caesalpinia mexicana) is a deciduous or broadleaf evergreen shrub for landscapes and gardens. This species is a repeat bloomer and is capable of blooming all year long. This plant will typically defoliate in zones 8 and 9 over winter but may retain the leaves in zones 10 and 11. This plant is capable of reseeding and can become an invasive species. Flowers should be deadheaded to prevent spreading. The native species is most common in production.
