The Pecan (Carya illinoinensis) is a large fruit (nut) bearing tree found naturalized and cultivated throughout the South and Eastern United States. The nuts are highly sought after for eating and the wood is coveted for carving. The tree is very slow to establish and needs to be planted in groves for best production. The native species is most common in production.
