American Chestnut - Castanea dentata

The American Chestnut (Castanea dentata) is a native American tree mostly eliminated by chestnut blight. This is a beautiful tree with valuable wood and delectable nuts. If you find an old growth one, guard it with your life! The species is almost extinct in the Southeast due to logging and Chestnut blight. There are a few blight resistant varieties in the early stages of production.
