European Chestnut - Castanea sativa

The European Chestnut (Castanea sativa) is a large flowering shade tree for landscapes and gardens that is also cultivated for it's Chestnuts. These are the ones we sing about at Christmas. This species is susceptible to Chestnut blight but not as badly as the American Chestnut. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
