Common Hackberry - Celtis occidentalis

The Common Hackberry (Celtis occidentalis) is an upright spreading shade tree for landscapes, gardens, and naturalizing. This is a fast growing sturdy tree ideal for urban use. This plant commonly hosts nipple gall which causes leaf drop. It also attracts flies. The tree is best if not planted near the home. The native species is most common in production.
