Golden Chinkapin - Chrysolepis chrysophylla

The Golden Chinkapin (Chrysolepis chrysophylla) is a large broadleaf evergreen shrub or small tree often found in natural settings. This is mainly a naturalizing shrub along the west coast. However, it can become a very large tree of over 100 feet. Typically they fall over and resprout before this happens. This plant is extremely difficult to transplant. Do not buy balled and burlapped specimens. The native species is most common in production.
