Winterhazel - Corylopsis speciosa

The Winterhazel (Corylopsis speciosa) is a large flowering shrub or small tree often found naturalized or in woodland garden settings. This plant has beautiful fragrant flowers in early spring before the leaves emerge. The suckering habit can lead to colonization and spreading in a garden. Do not plant this in sensitive native areas. There are many cultivated selections in production. The species is often mistaken for a native as it has naturalized in many areas of the United States.
