Harry Lauder's Walking Stick - Corylus avellana 'Contorta'

The Harry Lauder's Walking Stick (Corylus avellana 'Contorta') is a large ornamental shrub or small tree for landscapes and gardens. This variety is mainly planted for the contorted branches and leaves. It is very common in American Japanese gardens. The contorted leaves are aphid magnets, which usually causes the foliage to die off before achieving fall color. This is a sterile grafted cultivar of Corylus avellana.
