The Hazelnut (Corylus avellana) is a large spreading shrub found naturally along the East Coast, and often planted for the nut. This tree is planted for the seed commonly known as a hazelnut or filbert. The suckering habit can naturalize and overtake an area. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
