Douglas Hawthorn - Crataegus douglasii

The Douglas Hawthorn (Crataegus douglasii) is a medium sized flowering tree for landscapes and gardens and naturalizing. This plant has a very prolific berry in the fall that is usually eaten by birds in early winter. It is pollution tolerant and good for urban use. The tree is very thorny and prone to fire blight. The flowers are often considered '"stinky". It rarely achieves fall color due to fungus. The native species is most common in production.
