Washington Hawthorn - Crataegus phaenopyrum

The Washington Hawthorn (Crataegus phaenopyrum) is a medium sized flowering tree for landscapes, gardens and naturalizing. This plant has a very prolific berry in the fall that is usually eaten by birds in early winter. It is pollution tolerant and good for urban use. The tree is very thorny and the flowers are often considered "stinky". Leaves rarely achieves fall color before freezing. The native species is most common in production.
