Calabash Tree - Crescentia alata

The Calabash Tree (Crescentia alata) is a medium sized flowering broadleaf evergree tree for landscapes and gardens. This is one weird but cool tree. The flowers are ford directly on the trunk rather that emergent growth, and a round green fruit follows. The leaves are interesting with a great testure as well. This plant can be very sensitive to extended moisture and likes some dry spells. The native species is most common in production.
