Desert Spoon - Dasylirion wheeleri

The Desert Spoon (Dasylirion wheeleri) is a broadleaf evergreen shrub for landscapes, gardens and naturalizing. When young this looks like a grass, but over time it develops a stubby little trunk. In summer it puts out a spike with hundreds of flowers that can reach up to 15 feet in height. This plant has very prickly spines lineing the length of the leaves. The native species is most common in production.
