Sickle Pod - Dichrostachys cinerea

The Sickle Pod (Dichrostachys cinerea) is a deciduous flowering tree for landscapes and gardens. This is a fast growing tree that is tolerant of drought and water. Most desired are the unique tricolored flowers that bloom in summer. The leaves are drought deciduous so may be retained in winter. This plant can reseed and has become an invasive species in Florida. The suckering habit can also require extensive maintenance to form a single tree form. This plant is also very thorny. The native species is most common in production.
