Red Obelisk European Beech - Fagus sylvatica 'Red Obelisk'
The Red Obelisk European Beech (Fagus sylvatica 'Red Obelisk') is a medium sized deciduous tree ideal for landscapes and gardens. Juvenile specimens look weeping to to the contorted branches until you realize they are all upright. With age they fill out to look almost columnar. The upright branching habit makes this plant prone to ice and snow damage. This is a cultivated variety of Fagus sylvatica. Photos from the parent species may aid in identification.
