Common Fig - Ficus carica

The Common Fig (Ficus carica) is a medium sized fruit bearing tree for landscapes and gardens. This plant is grown mainly for the fruit that is a favorite among chefs, dried for prunes, and used in jams, but has little ornamental value. This is considered to be an invasive species and has naturalized in much of the Eastern US and California. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
