Boojum, Columnar Ocotillo - Fouquieria columnaris

The Boojum, Columnar Ocotillo (Fouquieria columnaris) is is a unique specimen mainly found in collectors' gardens or the Sonoran Desert. This plant is mostly trunk growing very slowly with small spindly thorny branches or solitary leaf clusters spiralling it. The plant is extremely slow growing, must be six feet tall to bloom, and can take 500 years to reach 50 feet in height. The native species is most common in production.
