The Ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens) is a spiky thorny plant native to the deserts of the Southwest rarely used in landscapes except or hedging and naturalizing. This is often sold bare-root in warmer climates for planting in hedges. The plant defoliates in times of drought but the leaves reemerge with rain. The native species is most common in production.
