European or Common Ash - Fraxinus excelsior

The European or Common Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) is a deciduous shade tree native to the Cumberland Gap and into the Northeast. This Ash has a more upright and arching habit than other species that makes it great for tighter spaces and naturalizing. Most varieties of Ash are being attacked by a borer throughout the Ohio River valley and it is moving westward. There are a few cultivars of the species available but it is used more for hybridizing.
