Vernal Witchhazel - Hamamelis vernalis

The Vernal Witchhazel (Hamamelis vernalis) is a small flowering tree for gardens and landscapes. It is native found native in woodland understories throughout the lower midwest. Witchhazels are known for their early spring and winter flowers that open on warm days and close when it is cold. Hybrid varieties have been developed for flower color and size variations. This plant has no negatives of note. This native species is in production, but more often used in creating hybrids.
