Japanese Walnut - Juglans ailantifolia

The Japanese Walnut (Juglans ailantifolia) is a large shade tree for landscapes, gardens, and timber production. The species was originally introduced in the late 1800's as a lumber and nut alternative to the native that has since escaped into nature in New England. This species has become invasive in MA, ME, and RI and probably should not be used in natural settings. The native species is most common in production.
