The Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) is a large shade and nut producing tree for landscapes, gardens, naturalizing and lumber. This is an extremely hardy prolific producer of nuts and highly coveted for it's lumber. This is one of the great native American trees. Walnuts produce a toxin that can prevent certain plants from growing beneath them. The falling nuts can be very messy in a residential landscape. The native species is most common in production.
