European Larch - Larix decidua

The European Larch (Larix decidua) is a large pyramidal deciduous conifer for landscapes and gardens. This is really an interesting tree that I have never seen done justice in a photo. In person the are a great presence. People usually think the tree is dying in the fall because it defoliates. The native species is common in production and has escaped into nature and become invasive in CT, IL, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VA and VT.
