Osage-orange - Maclura pomifera

The Osage-orange (Maclura pomifera) is a deciduous shade tree found in farmland throughout the United States. This was originally only native to the lower Midwest, but was planted by settlers throughout the United States as living fences. Unfortunately it is now becoming endangered. This species is extremely thorny and has softball sized fruit that can dent a car when falling. The native species is most common in production.
