Bog Myrtle - Myrica gale

The Bog Myrtle (Myrica gale) is a broadleaf evergreen shrub for landscapes, gardens, and naturalizing that is native to wetlands and bogs. This plant has glossy evergreen leaves that defoliate when new buds emerge. The males hold leaves all year. Females defoliate in winter due to the berries. It also has a suckering habit that is great for hedges and naturalizing. This plant has no negatives of note. The native species is most common in production.
