Ironwood - Ostrya virginiana

The Ironwood (Ostrya virginiana) is a medium sized shade tree for landscapes, gardens, and naturalizing that is native to much of the United States. The species has a wonderful orange fall color and a really nice branching habit with smooth bark. This is definitely one of the unsung and underused treasures of the natives. This plant has no negatives of note. The native species is most common in production.
