Pachypodium - Pachypodium saundersii

The Pachypodium (Pachypodium saundersii) is a broadleaf evergreen shrub for arid landscapes and gardens most often found in containers. This plant is very popular as a container plant, but becomes an impressive sprawling habit in the ground. People often think of it as a cactus for the spines and a succulent due to the bulbouse base and fleshy trunk. However the leaves do not store moisture so it technically is a woody. This plant does have spines, but requires very little handling. It is also poisonous if ingested. The native species is most common in production.
