Date Palm - Phoenix dactylifera

The Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera) is a large broadleaf evergreen palm tree for warm climate landscapes and gardens. This was one of the first plants ever cultivated by man for the fruit (dates) it produces. Cultivated specimens can reach 100 feet with a single trunk, but smaller clump forms are the natural and more common habit. This plant have the typical palm pricklies and dead leaves that need to be removed to keep a clean appearance, but it is worth it. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
