The Lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta var. latifolia) is a large upright conifer native to the Rocky Mountains and used in reforestation for lumber. The straight upright trunks are tolerant of crowded forests and produce 'Lodge Poles', hence the name. This species is probably too large for use in residential landscapes. There are more cultivars of this species in production.
