Tanyosho Pine - Pinus densiflora 'Umbraculifera'

The Tanyosho Pine (Pinus densiflora 'Umbraculifera') is a grafted conifer for landscape and garden specimens. The standard (grafted on a trunk) form gives an elevated shrub look for easy underplanting. This is a great old collector's specimen. This is not really a negative, but this was the first grafted conifer to really penetrate the United States market. This plant is a cultivated variety of Pinus densiflora. Bark, cone and needle photos are from parent species for identification purposes.
