American Sycamore - Platanus occidentalis

The American Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) is a large deciduous shade tree ideal for street trees, parks, and open spaces. This tree is distinctive or its exfoliating bark on the upper trunk and branches. It creates a nice cathedral like canopy for shade, and is extremely pollution tolerant. Between bark, seeds, and diseased leaves, this plant drops debris seemingly year round. I would still plant it in low maintenance areas. The native species is most common in production, but has been crossed to try and create "improved" varieties. It is hard to improve on greatness though.
