Quaking Aspen - Populus tremuloides

The Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides) is a fast growing medium sized shade tree found naturalized throughout the United States. This species has great fall color, a columnar habit, and ideally is planted in groves. It also makes a unique sound as the slightest breeze causes the leaves to "Quake". This is the most widely distributed tree on the continent. They are so fast growing they are very short lived. They shouldn't be planted as specimens but naturalized into landscapes. The native species is most common in production.
