Western Honey Mesquite - Prosopis glandulosa torreyana

The Western Honey Mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa torreyana) is a medium sized fast growing tree for landscapes and gardens. This is a sought after wood for fuel and the flavoring in BBQ. This subspecies has a brighter green (almost yellow when emerging) color to the foliage and one of the more attractice Mesquite barks. This plant is very thorny, and the drop lots of litter, but are virtually bulletproof. The native species is most common in production. This plant is very similar to Prosopis glandulosa glandulosa being separted by the narrower, pointier bean it produces. Photos from other Proposis glandulosa will aid in identification.
